Here’s an idea worth fighting for
In her Aug. 20 guest column, Kathy Salvi, chairwoman of the Illinois Republican Party, complains that under the control of the Democratic Party, residentscost of living has risen to excessive levels. I agree.
Ms. Salvi says Republicans will fight, fight, fight to remedy that problem. How about dismantling some of the weaker township governments in northern Illinois and distributing their useful functions to the appropriate county or state agencies? Here in Cook County we have city, county, township, state and federal governments.
They have thousands of employees soaking up billions of our tax dollars. If the township governments were cut back or even shut down, could our taxes be reduced — even by 5% to 8%? There’s an idea to fight for, Ms. Salvi.
