College of DuPage board elects Florence Appel as vice chair

Special meeting set to fill trustee vacancy

Florence Appel of Lombard was elected as vice chairman of the College of DuPage board of trustees at the board’s Aug. 22 regular meeting.

Appel, a retired educator, was elected to the board for a six-year term in April 2021. She replaces Heidi Holan, who resigned from the board last month and was recognized by resolution for her many contributions at the Aug. 22 meeting.

With Holan’s departure, the board is required to appoint a trustee to serve until the next general election in April 2025. The board reviewed applications from 28 District 502 residents and interviewed five finalists.

A final selection will be announced at a special meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, in the Student Services Center, Room 2200, on the college’s Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.
