How many Illinois politicos can you squeeze into an Air Force Two photo op?
With presidents flying in here, DNC speeches there, and photo opportunities everywhere, Illinois lawmakers have to be very nimble to get in on all the action.
And we mean nimble in the case of a photo of Vice President Kamala Harris, second gentleman Doug Emhoff and at least 18 politicians squeezed into the frame.
The occasion was presidential nominee Harris’ arrival at O’Hare International Airport on Sunday, when a posse of Illinois leaders greeted her as she stepped off Air Force Two.
“It was nice, not all of us but most of us, welcoming Kamala on the tarmac,” said U.S. Rep. Sean Casten of Downers Grove, who posted the photo on social media. “Alexi, Kwame, Juliana, Jan, Delia, Mike, Lauren, me, Danny, Kamala and Doug.”
That would be Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, Attorney General Kwame Raoul, Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton and U.S. Reps. Jan Schakowsky, Delia Ramirez, Mike Quigley, Lauren Underwood and Danny Davis, along with Harris and Emhoff.
Also squeezing were U.S. Reps. Raja Krishnamoorthi, Brad Schneider and Jonathan Jackson, along with Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson.
