Man convicted of attempted murder in Aurora shooting
A Kane County jury has found a Chicago man guilty of attempted first-degree murder in a 2022 Aurora shooting.
Byron Frazier, 32, of the 4600 block of South Lawndale Avenue, also was convicted on Monday of aggravated battery with a firearm, armed violence and armed habitual criminal, according to a news release from the Kane County state’s attorney’s office.
At around 4:20 p.m. on Aug. 18, 2022, a man pulled into a gas station at 1030 N. Lake St. (Route 31) in Aurora, where he had seen his ex-girlfriend’s parked vehicle.
The man approached the vehicle. Frazier, the woman’s current boyfriend, came out of the gas station, stood next to the victim, reached into the car to get a gun, then shot the victim, according to prosecutors.
When Frazier drove away, an off-duty state trooper followed him to a residence. Frazier ran off, but the trooper and Aurora police caught him.
The victim lost his ability to walk, according to the news release, but remains hopeful he will regain that ability.
Frazier’s next court date is Oct. 16. He could be sentenced to 57 years to life in prison.
