Gurnee Days parade goes for the gold
Thousands of people lined Old Grand Avenue Sunday for the 51st Gurnee Days parade.
With a theme of “Gurnee Days goes for the Gold,” many floats sported Olympic rings and medals as they slowly traversed the parade route.

“This parade celebrates the uniqueness and wonderful things about the village,” said Sabrina Hinkens of the Gurnee Park District, who was one of the parade organizers.
Among the 61 entries were an honor guard, emergency vehicles, bands, dancers, local businesses and politicians shaking as many hands as possible.
Sabrina Hernandez, who got there early to stake out a prime shady spot, said she’s been coming to the parade since she was a kid.
“It’s been a family tradition and it always will be,” Hernandez said.
