How to apply to Lombard Citizen’s Fire Academy

Lombard firefighters are taking applications for their Citizen’s Fire Academy, a free, five-week program starting Sept. 11.

Academy participants must be at least 18 years old and live or work in Lombard.

The academy will offer classroom instruction and interactive discussions. Hands-on practical exercises will also focus on various aspects of the job, including wearing personal protective equipment, extinguishing a fire, climbing a ladder, vehicle extrication and more.

The program is designed to give people a better understanding of how the department responds to fire and medical emergencies.

Applications are due by Aug. 16 and are available online at villageoflombard.org/citizensacademy or by visiting Lombard Village Hall, 255 E. Wilson Ave. The class size will be limited to 10.

The academy will run through Oct. 9. For details, contact Fire Marshal Perry Johnson at (630) 873-4576 or email JohnsonP@villageoflombard.org.
