Man charged with drug-induced homicide of Naperville resident

A man accused of killing a Naperville man by illegally selling him fentanyl and a sedative has been ordered held in jail pretrial.

Christopher H. Hobson, 38, of the 4300 block of S. St. Lawrence Avenue, Chicago, was in DuPage County First Appearance Court Friday morning.

He was charged in April with three counts of drug-induced homicide and two counts of manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance. Hobson was arrested Wednesday.

Authorities say that he sold alprazolam and fentanyl to Daniel Grimley, 36, on Feb. 20, 2023.

Grimley died in his home on Feb. 22. An autopsy ruled he died of combined drug intoxication. Fentanyl, alprazolam, phenobarbital and fluoxetine were found in his body.

Fentanyl is an opioid; alprazolam is the generic name for Xanax, a sedative; phenobarbital is a sedative that also is used to treat epilepsy; and fluoxetine, the generic name for Prozac, is an antidepressant. The last two were prescribed to Grimley, according to authorities.

Hobson’s next court date is Aug. 12.
