Softball: Batavia outlasts St. Charles East in 11 innings
Elizabeth Thayer homered with two outs in the 11th inning to give Batavia a 2-1 win over St. Charles East on Wednesday in St. Charles.
Noelle Chaney retired the Saints in the bottom of the 11th to complete the DuKane Conference win, pitching around a single by Alex Wooten. Chaney pitched all 11 innings allowing 6 hits while striking out seven and walking none.
Katie Arrambide also pitched a complete game for the Saints (12-7, 3-2), striking out 11, walking four and allowing five hits.
The Saints scored their only run on Maddy Stout's home run in the fourth inning. Batavia (7-11, 1-3) also scored in the fourth on a solo home run by Cassidy Carby.
Geneva 11, Wheaton North 8: The Vikings (4-7, 3-1) played error-free softball and banged out 12 hits in a DuKane Conference victory.
Sydney Haake earned the win to even her record at 2-2, striking out 11 and walking none. Sydney Erdmann and Allison Mraz doubled and Haley Veltri and Alyssa Kramer tripled.
Elgin 10, Elmwood Park 6: Abby Sensor pitched the Maroons (2-12) to victory, striking out 14. She also had 3 RBI and was joined by other offensive stalwarts Lexi Ruiz (double, 2 RBI), Alexis Acevedo (2-for-2, 3 runs, 2 RBI), Emma Carrero (1-for-4), Rayanne Schubert (1-for-4, RBI) and Mireya Morales (1-for-2, 2 runs).
Glenbard South 9, Larkin 8: Larkin rallied for six runs in the seventh inning only to fall a run short.
Liz Bowman led the Royals (4-10, 2-5 in the Upstate Eight) by going 3-for-4 with 3 runs and 3 RBI. Kathy Garcia and Katie Turner both tripled and had an RBI, Ashley Miller went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Abbie Stout was 3-for-3.
Kailey Cronin took the loss, allowing 11 hits in 6 innings.
