Dogs top Kansas City

The Chicago Dogs beat the Kansas City Monarchs 5-1 on Sunday.

Narciso Crook hit a solo homer to help the Dogs to a 2-0 first-inning lead. Crook’s 14th home runs leads the American Association. Designated hitter Zion Pettigrew added to the Dogs’ early lead with an RBI double that scored Jacob Teter.

The Dogs added to the lead with a run in the fourth inning after Pettigrew hit his second double of the game. He scored on an Antonio Barranca sacrifice fly.

Brantley Bell hit a solo home run in the fifth inning. Crook then hit a double, scoring on a Teter single.

Brooks Gosswein started on the mound for the Dogs, throwing 5.2 innings of one-run ball to earn the win.
