Volunteers canvass to seek tips in 2 Detroit homicides

DETROIT (AP) - A group of volunteers has assembled in an effort to generate tips regarding two recent homicides in Detroit.

More than 30 volunteers rallied Sunday to pass out Crime Stoppers fliers in the Eight Mile and Gratiot neighborhoods. They hope their efforts will lead to information about the Dec. 25 shooting of 22-year-old Christina Samuel and the Dec. 22 shooting of 16-year-old Paige Stalker.

Samuel's brother tells The Detroit News (http://bit.ly/1BSp4MH ) that the group went door-to-door for about two hours, talking to homeowners and motorists about the shooting deaths.

Police say Samuel was fatally shot on Christmas Day as she was sitting in her car with a 24-year-old friend on the city's eastside.

Police say Stalker also was in a parked car with four friends on the city's east side when a man opened fire, killing the Grosse Pointe Farms teen.
