ASEZ WAO Invasive Species Removal Event
We are excited to share the success of a recent community service event hosted by ASEZ WAO, where more than 35 dedicated volunteers came together at Bunker Hill Forest Preserve to make a significant environmental impact. This event was held in honor of World Environment Day.
On June 9, 2024, ASEZ WAO volunteers focused on removing invasive species from the preserve, promoting the health and biodiversity of this vital ecosystem. This effort aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 13 (Climate Action) and 15 (Life on Land), which aim to combat climate change and its impacts, and protect, restore, and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, respectively.
ASEZ WAO, which consists of young adult workers from the World Mission Society Church of God, dedicated to making a significant impact through social responsibility as corporate professionals, was recently honored with the United States Presidential Award for Volunteer Efforts by President Joe Biden.
Throughout the day, volunteers worked diligently to remove invasive plants that are not native to the local area. Their efforts not only help preserve the natural beauty of the area but also contribute to the broader goal of maintaining ecological balance and enhancing biodiversity. All together members covered a total area of 7,200 square feet removing a total of 1,387 invasive species plants.
The event was a testament to the power of community action and the impact that dedicated individuals can have on the environment. ASEZ WAO is committed to continuing these efforts and working toward a sustainable future for all.
