Local players help Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball to second place in Division III College World Series
Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball wrapped up the Division III College World Series with a second-place finish. The Warhawks beat Misericordia (Pa.) 16-10 to even the best-of-three championship series, then lost the deciding game 10-5.
Downers Grove South grad Matt Scolan set a school record for RBI in a season with 78, going 4-for-5 with a home run and 6 RBI in the Game 2 victory. Wheaton North's Aaron Holland led off the first inning with a home run and Yorkville's Michael Hilker Jr., pitched 6 innings to earn the victory.
In the deciding game, Misericordia jumped in front with a 7-run first inning. Libertyville's Sam Paden had a pair of RBI to give UWW a chance, while Palatine's Danny Hopper scored 2 runs and pitched the final inning.
