Rock ‘n’ Run the Runway returns to Wheeling airport

Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling will host the annual Rock ‘n’ Run the Runway event June 29.

Organized with Wheeling and Prospect Heights officials, the event begins with a 5-kilometer run and a 1-mile walk on the runways at the airport, which jointly is owned by the two communities. Other races are planned for the morning, too.

After a break, the event resumes at 5 p.m. with face painters, balloon artists, a magician, food trucks, municipal vehicle displays and more.

Live music from Wildfire and then Mike & Joe is set to begin at 6 p.m., and a fireworks show is scheduled for 9:15 p.m.

Evening admission is free and free parking will be available. No outside food or drinks are allowed.

Sponsors include the Wheeling Park District, Waste Management, Restore Construction, MacQueen Emergency, Chicago Aviation Plaza, and Klein, Thorpe, and Jenkins Ltd.
