Lake Zurich’s streetlights go green

Lake Zurich is supporting renewable energy by purchasing 100% green power for the village’s 824 streetlights.

Starting in July, all the energy used by the lights will be backed by renewable energy credits that support clean, sustainable energy produced in the Midwest by wind, solar and hydroelectric facilities, according to the village.

The streetlights with light transition will reduce the village’s carbon footprint by the equivalent of burning 66,000 pounds of coal, officials say.

With the streetlights, public aggregation program for residential and small business account, Lake Zurich will become a certified EPA Green Community later this year.
