Authorities identify 12-year-old Peoria shooting victim

PEORIA, Ill. (AP) - Authorities have identified the 12-year-old Peoria boy who died after being shot in the head Monday night.

According to the county coroner, Demarcus L. Payne died Tuesday afternoon at Children's Hospital of Illinois. The (Peoria) Journal Star (http://bit.ly/1uX8zZL ) reports police were unaware of his identity for hours after the shooting, until his mother reported him missing and later identified him at the hospital.

The boy was found lying on the ground outside in a residential neighborhood shortly before 5 p.m. Monday.

Police say multiple shots were fired in the area, and several vehicles were seen leaving the scene after the shooting, including a gray Jeep, silver Chevrolet Malibu and white SUV.

No arrests have been made in the shooting. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Peoria Police Department.
