Man accused of attacking police to undergo competency exam

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - A probable cause hearing for a 27-year-old Big Rapids man accused of shooting arrows at police officers has been postponed while he undergoes a competency exam.

Wesley Snyder is charged with two counts of attempted murder, seven counts of felonious assault, and three counts of felony assaulting/resisting/obstructing police. He's accused of ambushing and using a bow and arrow to shoot at officers on Jan. 16 while they were investigating an earlier assault for which he was a suspect.

Authorities say Snyder charged at officers in the hallway of his apartment building, causing himself and Sgt. Jim Eddinger to fall down a flight of stairs. They say Snyder stuck his thumb in Eddinger's eye.

It wasn't immediately known if Snyder has an attorney yet. He's being held on $5 million bond.
