Train strikes pedestrian in Des Plaines

A commuter train struck a pedestrian Saturday afternoon in downtown Des Plaines, police said.

The person was struck near the intersection of the tracks and Pearson Street just after 3 p.m. As of 6 p.m., no information was available on the person’s condition.

The crash involved Metra train #713, which was headed outbound on the Union Pacific Northwest line.

Inbound and outbound trains were operating with extensive delays due to the ongoing investigation by Des Plaines and Metra police. Some trains may be canceled or going express, according to a Metra alert.
