Firefighters prevent spread of dumpster fire at The Clove in Buffalo Grove

Firefighters prevented the spread of a large dumpster fire on the construction site of The Clove mixed-use development in Buffalo Grove.

The open top semitrailer dumpster was fully involved with flames and smoke at 2:30 p.m. Friday, authorities said.

Firefighters extended a ladder truck master stream hose and two other hoses to quickly extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading to the nearby apartment building under construction.

Other firefighters worked to evacuate anyone who was in the building. No injuries were reported.

The seven-story, 275- to 300-unit building with 16,000 square feet of first-floor retail space is among the centerpieces of the $150 million mixed-use project that’s under construction at Lake-Cook and McHenry roads.

The fire remains under investigation.
