Dogs swept by Lake Country
OCONOMOWOC, WIS. — The Lake Country DockHounds defeated the Chicago Dogs 10-9 at Wisconsin Brewing Company Park on Thursday.
It’s the first time Lake Country has swept Chicago in a series.
The Dogs led by as many as six runs in the first, second, fourth and sixth innings.
The first seven Chicago hitters reached as the Dogs led 6-0 after the first inning. First baseman Jacob Teter and third baseman Dusty Stroup smashed two-run homers in the inning.
The Dogs accumulated six hits in the inning as 11 hitters stepped up to the plate.
Teter added his second home run of the game in the top of fourth inning to extend Chicago’s lead to 8-2.
Right fielder Narciso Crook torched his American Association-leading fifth home run to extend the Dogs’ lead to 9-3 in the sixth inning.
Following the Dogs’ offensive outburst, Lake Country pounded Chicago’s bullpen for seven runs in the final three frames.
Relief pitcher Augie Voight allowed three doubles and a home run, which put three runs across in the bottom of the sixth inning.
With two outs and two runners on base, center fielder Justin Connell hit a three-run home run to tie the game at nine.
Chicago had trouble retiring the bottom of Lake Country’s order. Third baseman Josh Morgan, Connell and designated hitter Justin Lavey combined for seven RBI and six of the DockHounds’ 12 hits.
Lake Country first baseman Ryan Hernandez hit the go-ahead home run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Dogs and DockHounds combined for seven home runs and 24 hits in the series finale.
Chicago heads home to Impact Field for a three-game series with the Sioux City Explorers. First pitch for the opener is at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
