District 112 welcomes Dr. Portia Ransom as associate principal of Edgewood Middle School
The North Shore School District 112 Board of Education approved the appointment of Dr. Portia Ransom as the new associate principal of Edgewood Middle School at Tuesday night’s meeting. Dr. Ransom will begin in her new role on July 1, 2024.
Dr. Ransom brings a wealth of experience and a strong background in educational leadership, curriculum development and diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. Since 2021, she has served as an instructional coach at DuPage High School District 88 and as an English teacher and department head since 2022. Prior to that, she served in multiple roles at the university level, including as an academic dean at Aurora University from 2015 to 2017.
Dr. Ransom brings an impressive array of academic credentials to her new role. She earned a doctoral degree in American studies from Purdue University, as well as master’s degrees in English from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and secondary education from National Louis University. She also holds a graduate degree in educational leadership from American College of Education and a special education endorsement from National Louis. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Oberlin College. Additionally, Dr. Ransom published a book about the Harlem Renaissance in 2005.

Joining the 2024-2025 Edgewood leadership team, Dr. Ransom will work alongside Principal Louis Kotvis and Associate Principals Keri Williams and Rebecca Hansen.
