Aurora church concludes Wednesday Night Gatherings series May 15 with cookout, games

AURORA, Ill., May 5, 2024--Wesley United Methodist Church, 14 N. May st. in Aurora, will conclude its 2023-2024 Wednesday Night Gathering series on Wednesday, May 15.

The public is invited. Admission and parking are free.

The event will feature a free outdoor cookout followed by games for families and individuals.

Michelle Curiel, Gatherings coordinator and children and family director, said Gatherings will resume in the fall.

The May 2 Gathering featured a seed planting workshop by Obama Legacy Initiative Gardens volunteers Fred Greenwood of Naperville and Marilyn Joiner of Wheaton. Greenwood is Obama Legacy Initiative president and co-founder.

With unpaid volunteers, the nonprofit teaches how to use raised garden beds to homegrow vegetables and flowers. The effort is designed to help eliminate community food deserts and reduce costly healthcare issues.

Wesley holds Wednesday Night Gatherings during the school year on first and third Wednesdays and fifth Wednesdays if applicable.
