Class in eastern Iowa aims to help people with fishing

PALO, Iowa (AP) - A class in eastern Iowa aims to help people appreciate fishing.

Nearly two dozen people - including grandfathers, fathers and sons - attended the Winter Fishing Academy on Saturday at a sporting goods store in the small community of Palo.

Chuck Ungs, a naturalist from Wickiup Hill Learning Center, led the two-hour seminar. It included information on the basics of fishing, including hooks, bobbers and sinkers. There was also information on different types of fishing rods.

Ungs says it's important to teach children about fishing because it encourages a new generation of enthusiasts.

Cedar Rapids television station KCRG reports (http://bit.ly/1C2sISf ) several fishing experts will be leading other classes throughout the year.
