Aurora teen found with mother’s gun placed on home detention
A 15-year-old Aurora boy is on house arrest and faces weapons charges after Naperville police found him driving his mother’s car and in possession of her gun.
Naperville police arrested the teen shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday after they stopped him for improper lane usage at Washington Street and Iroquois Avenue.
When police stopped the teen, they noticed him reach down behind the driver’s seat, where police found a 9 mm handgun with one bullet in the chamber.
The teen is charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of ammunition without a FOID card.
Through their investigation, police learned the teen took his mother’s car and her gun, which was in a lockbox, without her permission.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres said it was “disturbing” that the teen took his mother’s car and gun and was out at that hour of the night.
DuPage County Judge Chantelle Porter on Monday released the teen to his mother and placed him on home detention. His next court date is June 14.
