Naperville police to host Youth Academy

Naperville high school students can sign up for a six-week youth academy course through the police department.

The academy begins on May 30 and meets every Thursday through July 11, excluding July 4. Sessions are held at the Naperville Police Department, 1350 Aurora Ave., from 6 to 8 p.m.

The youth academy allows teens to interact with police and learn more about the police department through a series of discussions and hands-on demonstrations. Topics include patrol operations, police canines, investigations, special response team and forensics.

Space is limited. The academy is open to Naperville residents who will be attending high school in the fall. Participants must have parental permission and have no criminal contacts.

Visit naperville.il.us/cpa to print out the application and waiver form. Signed documents must be submitted no later than May 22 to Sgt. Jon Pope by email at popej@naperville.il.us. Forms can also be delivered in person or by mail to the Naperville Police Department, 1350 Aurora Ave., Naperville, IL 60540.
