Iowa fire chief's childhood memories go up in smoke

STACYVILLE, Iowa (AP) - A northern Iowa fire chief's childhood memories have gone up in smoke with the blaze that destroyed the home where his mother has lived for nearly 60 years.

Mason City television station KIMT reports (http://bit.ly/1EtYa04 ) that the blaze began around 11 a.m. Thursday in Stacyville.

Fire Chief Jay Adams' mother was home when the fire began, but she was able to escape safely.

The fire cause is being investigated.
