Property tax appeal seminar in Arlington Hts. Thursday

Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Dan Patlak will hold a property tax assessment appeal seminar at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library, 500 N. Dunton Ave., for taxpayers seeking to appeal their 2014 property tax assessments.

The seminar is co-hosted by Wheeling Township Assessor Jerry Sadler and Arlington Heights Mayor Thomas Hayes. The hourlong session will educate taxpayers on how to file a successful tax appeal and address why property taxes go up when the value of homes goes down.

The free event will include a presentation by Patlak explaining the appeal procedure. Before the end of the evening, taxpayers will have an opportunity to work with staff from the board to address specific questions and concerns. Taxpayers are asked to bring a copy of their most recent tax bill.

Appeal forms may be picked up at the Board of Review at 118 N. Clark Street-Room 601 in Chicago, or at the Rolling Meadows office, 2121 Euclid Ave., Room 237. Taxpayers may also file an appeal online by visiting www.cookcountyboardofreview.com.
