Girls soccer: Schaumburg bounces back by blanking Conant

Schaumburg got back to its winning ways with a 3-0 victory over visiting Conant Friday night courtesy of goals from Grace Nelson, Emily Carlos and Caroline Chalberg.

The Saxons (9-4-0, 6-2-0-18 points) had been on a three-game winning streak before a disappointing 1-0 loss at Elk Grove ended the streak on Tuesday. However, Tracy Serafini's club would start and finish strong to take three points from its division rivals.

"I thought we played really well against Elk Grove. (One) mistake cost us in that one, but I thought the girls did a good job on both sides of the ball tonight," said Serafini.

"This team has worked so hard together to get better, and we have a group that wants to continue to be at our best in each game," added Carlos.

Carlos has transitioned nicely from the backline to the front line and now has 10 goals on the season after the senior doubled the Saxons’ advantage just after the intermission.

Teammate Nelson opened the scoring at 14 minutes when she finished a terrific helper from Jorie Carr.

"Jorie is back from club this year and has made an immediate impact for us at right back, and with her two assists tonight now leads our team with eight," said Serafini.

"I thought we had a good enough start, but our problem of late has been finishing our chances, and tonight they were much better at that than we were," said Conant coach Jeff Melone.

"Both keepers were fantastic tonight, especially our keeper, Annabel Danso, who had her best game of the season."

Danso made a valiant save on a well struck effort from Chalberg in the 62nd minute, while on the other end, her counterpart (Dietz) turned away consecutive attempts by Sophie Dobrincu.

Chalberg would convert a PK in the 80th minute, set up by a marvelous run into the box by Carlos to give her a team-high 15 goals.

Next up for the Saxons will be a nonconference contest at Streamwood on Monday, while the Cougars (5-5-1, 2-4-1-7 points) host Prospect next Wednesday night in Hoffman Estates.
