Hello Kitty Owner investigates possible shareholder data leak

Sanrio Co., the Japanese owner of the Hello Kitty cartoon character, said the data of more than 6,000 shareholders may have been leaked.

The information may include the names, addresses and phone numbers of as many as 6,249 shareholders, the Tokyo-based retail and licensing company said in a statement Wednesday. Sanrio is still investigating how the data, which shareholders used to register with an online loyalty rewards service, could have been released.
