Don’t let critics dictate your entertainment choices
There probably aren’t many Daily Herald readers who are old enough to remember Preston Bradley. Dr. Bradley was a prominent Chicago pastor and a superb orator. I often recall him saying there is no substitute for seeing a performance yourself. He was indicating that a critic should not be the dictator of what you should see.
That came to mind Sunday reading Dann Gire’s report on the film “Civil War.” Gire did well with describing the film but if he wrote the caption: Civil bore” and give it only two stars, I was delighted to have seen it Friday before this report was published.
It wasn’t at all boring to me.
