Authorities: $11,000 in $2 bills helps crack theft case

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say the discovery of about $11,000 in $2 bills in a man's van helped them crack a stolen collectibles case.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports (http://bit.ly/1DxU8jr ) a September traffic stop prompted a Grand Traverse County sheriff's investigation after authorities found 40-year-old Justin Alan Napier with boxes of $2 bills, coins, watches and jewelry.

Sheriff's Capt. Randy Fewless says detectives determined the collection was taken from a storage unit. Napier, who is from Kalkaska, appeared Monday in 86th District Court for arraignment on a charge of receiving and concealing stolen property.

Napier's lawyer Patrick Fragel tells The Associated Press in an email Wednesday that he can't discuss the case.

Fewless says about $14,000 in cash was seize during the investigation. Authorities say others may be involved in the theft.
