Turn around question on sexuality choice
Ken Libowicz of Hoffman Estates shared some disturbing opinions in his letter published Jan. 20. He is clearly intolerant of homosexuals, and spelled it out in a rash of convictions, most of which focused on the idea that homosexuality is entirely a chosen "behavior" (his word).
Homosexuality is infinitely more than a behavior, needless to say. And if it were true that it is a choice to engage in this "behavior," why on earth would anyone choose a lifestyle that throughout history has been faced with almost universal disdain?
I often ask those who are convinced that homosexuals are in control of their choices: What if it were the norm? What if being a heterosexual was the lifestyle demonized by much of society? Could you, with enough training and intervention, suddenly prefer your own sex?
I didn't think so.
