Man seeks to have his conviction in 1957 killing reversed
SYCAMORE, Ill. (AP) - A man convicted in 2012 of killing a northern Illinois girl in 1957 plans to try again to get a judge to reverse his conviction.
Seventy-five-year-old Jack D. McCullough was sentenced to life in prison for the death of 7-year-old Maria Ridulph of Sycamore. An appellate court upheld his murder conviction in February.
Court documents say a DeKalb County judge dismissed McCullough's handwritten request for post-conviction relief last month, calling it "frivolous and without merit." A public defender plans Wednesday to ask for a hearing on a motion he filed for the judge to reconsider his decision on McCullough's request.
The (DeKalb) Daily Chronicle (http://bit.ly/1Wgw90B ) reports McCullough argues new evidence could prove he's innocent. DeKalb County State's Attorney Richard Schmack says his office is considering whether to respond to McCullough's request.
