Registration open for music competition

Registration has begun for the Granquist Music Competition, the largest music competition in the state of Illinois.

This year's event will be held Saturday, June 27, at Geneva Community High School, 416 McKinley Ave. Teachers are encouraged to enroll students as early as possible. Online applications must be received by May 29 and mailed applications must be received by May 26. Both deadlines will be strictly enforced.

This is the 45th year of the competition established in 1970 by music educator Herb Granquist. We are pleased that the Granquist family is coordinating the competition. All contestants will be classified by instrument, age and years of instruction. A first, second and third place is awarded in each class. Solos, duets and ensembles are all encouraged to register. There are three levels of competition - Olympic, Performance and Concert.
