Simple way for COD board to fix mistakes
There is a simple way for the College of DuPage board to fix two of its mistakes at once.
The first mistake was to vote to name the new Homeland Security Education Center after the controversial current administrator, someone who was already paid very handsomely for the responsibility of expanding the college.
The board should do what many major universities do when they have a building to name. They should require a donation of a substantial portion of the building's cost from a private donor or even more from a corporation in exchange for naming rights for a fixed period of time. This income would also resolve the board's second mistake: offering the fiscally irresponsible contract that will pay the same administrator over $750,000 in taxpayer money to simply leave the job.
If we are naming a taxpayer-owned building for free, I can think of a few dozen Presidents of the United States who are more deserving, or any one of tens of thousands of veterans who gave a lot more for "Homeland Security" than did the current college president.
