House OKs plan to allow cameras in nursing home rooms
A proposal that would allow nursing home residents and their families to install cameras in their rooms to monitor what goes on is moving forward in Springfield.
The legislation, approved by the House Tuesday, would allow for recording if a nursing home resident pays for the equipment and any roommates sign off. The plan from Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is aimed at trying to prevent abuse.
"Placing a loved one in a nursing facility is a difficult decision that many families will face," Madigan said in a statement. "This measure provides an extra layer of security for nursing home residents, while giving their families peace of mind knowing that their loved ones are receiving safe, quality care."
The plan now moves to the Illinois Senate.
