27 Valparaiso U. athletes arrested on alcohol charges

VALPARAISO, Ind. - A weekend house party in northern Indiana has led to the arrests of more than two dozen Valparaiso University athletes.

The Times of Munster reports police say they arrested a total of 45 people, including 27 student-athletes, early Saturday at an off-campus house in Valparaiso.

Those arrested include 17 Valparaiso University football players, two members of the men's basketball team, two volleyball players, three women's basketball players, one woman's soccer player, one woman's tennis player and one women's track and field member.

All of those students were charged with minor consumption of an alcoholic beverage.

Campus spokeswoman Nicole Niemi said in a statement that campus officials take the matter seriously and are working "to determine the appropriate course of action" for the students who were arrested.
