Clare County sheriff: Man, 65, fatally shoots wife, 45, then self at northern Michigan home
HAYES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Northern Michigan authorities say a 65-year-old man fatally shot his 45-year-old wife, then killed himself with the same revolver.
Clare County Undersheriff Dwayne Miedzianowski (mij-un-OW'-skee) said Wednesday that Gerald Echelbarger fired the shots that killed himself and Brenda Echelbarger at their home in Hayes Township. It's near Harrison and about 30 miles north of Mount Pleasant in the northern Lower Peninsula.
The undersheriff says it appears the couple were going through "a domestic situation" of some kind that led to the shootings. The county's central dispatch center got a call Friday after a relative discovered the bodies.
Sheriff John S. Wilson issued a statement offering his "condolences to the family members, friends and community as everyone works through this unfortunate tragedy."
