Police: Gangs behind rise in gunshot reports in Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) - Police say a feud between gangs is behind an increase in the number of reported gunshots in Rockford last month.

The Rockford Register Star (http://bit.ly/16YW4a9 ) reports police received 50 shots-fired calls in January, up from 40 in December.

Assistant Deputy Chief Doug Pann says it's a small group of people behind the incidents, and they're members of the Latin Kings, Insane Unknowns and Satan Disciples gangs. He says police have warrants for their arrests.

According to Pann, police are investigating the cause of the quarrel. But he says the shootings are likely attempts at retaliation, and that Rockford has seen this happen previously.
