Jameson’s Charhouse closed in Carpentersville
Jameson’s Charhouse in Carpentersville closed this week, because its owner sold the eatery to another restaurant operator.
Spiros Angelos owns Jameson’s Charhouse, a local chain that specializes in steak and fish. It operates restaurants in Bloomingdale, Crystal Lake, Glenview, Huntley, Mount Prospect, Skokie and Woodridge.
But Monday was the last day of business for its Carpentersville location, Angelos said.
“We just decided to leave the market — it wasn’t meeting our standards,” Angelos said, declining to elaborate.
He also wouldn’t say who bought the Carpentersville eatery and doesn’t know when it will reopen as a restaurant.
As for the 25 employees who worked at the Carpentersville location, they’ve secured jobs at the chain’s other locations, Angelos said.
When Angelos opened the Carpentersville eatery in late 2010, he named it Joe’s American Kitchen and Tavern, after his brother. Later on, he renamed it Jameson’s because he wanted all of the restaurants to carry the same name.
Before Angelos entered the picture, the property had been vacant for about three years. It previously housed a T.G.I. Friday’s and before that other restaurants came and went.
The restaurant, which abuts Route 31 on an outlot of Spring Hill Mall is on the Carpentersville portion of Spring Hill Mall.
“The mall is not as busy as we thought, that’s why we tried to sell (the restaurant) to somebody else,” Angelos said.
Jameson’s was popular among certain Carpentersville officials, including Village President Ed Ritter and Trustee Kay Teeter.
“I’m just very surprised to see that,” Teeter said of the closure. “It’s a loss for the community.”
Jameson’s marks the third eatery the mall has lost within the last six months. McDonald’s left late last year over a leasing dispute. Earlier this year, the parent company for Old Country Buffet closed the one at the mall, along with 80 other poorly performing restaurants.
Amy Prew, the mall’s general manager, was unavailable for comment Thursday.
