Wauconda chamber recognizes winning posters

In recognition of Arbor Day, the Wauconda Area Chamber of Commerce, in continued partnership with the Village of Wauconda, funds an educational program that teaches students to be more familiar with the environmental benefits provided by trees.

Wauconda Village Arborist Chris Esvang conducted this year's program with fifth-grade students from Wauconda Grade School, Robert Crown Elementary School and Transfiguration Catholic School. Ten fifth-grade classrooms participated in an Arbor Day poster contest.

The three school winners were Claribel Hernandez from Wauconda Grade School, Anahi Guerrero from Robert Crown School and Marla Walinski from Transfiguration Catholic School. All three were honored at Arbor Day celebrations at their schools.

All three schools received a planted tree from the chamber's annual Arbor Day Tree and Shrub Sale for their participation. Each contest winner received a $50 gift certificate for use at the sale, as well as family passes to the chamber's upcoming IPRA Championship Rodeo in July.

The winners were also invited to ride on the village's Arbor Day float in the upcoming American Legion Post 911 Memorial Day Parade in May.
