Boilermakers hire Randy Melvin to coach defensive line
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Purdue coach Darrell Hazell hired Randy Melvin as his defensive line coach Thursday.
The longtime assistant worked with Hazell on the coaching staffs at Eastern Illinois and Rutgers. He also moved from Wyoming to Purdue with Joe Tiller in 1997. He coached the Boilermakers' defensive tackles under Tiller, who is Purdue career leader in wins.
Melvin spent last season at the University of Miami after spending the previous two seasons coaching the defensive line for the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It is the second hiring Hazell has announced this week.
On Monday, the Boilermakers named Tim Lester as their new quarterbacks coach.
