Deputies find drugs, AK-47 during check on parolee
Cook County Sheriff's deputies conducting a check on a parolee on electronic monitoring found suspected crack cocaine and two firearms, including a fully loaded AK-47 rifle.
Authorities say 23-year-old Michael Rivers is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and possession of cocaine and marijuana.
Investigators from the sheriff's electronic monitoring unit responded Thursday afternoon to a Chicago home after receiving a report that Rivers had violated curfew. Rivers is on electronic monitoring.
Deputies determined Rivers had a legitimate reason to have left. But when they went to check the monitoring unit, they found what appeared to be crack cocaine on a plate on the dining room floor.
Deputies also recovered the AK-47, a .357-caliber revolver and suspected marijuana.
A phone number for Rivers was disconnected.
