Derek Mason hires Marc Mattioli as Vanderbilt safeties coach
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason has hired Marc Mattioli away from Stanford to work with the Commodores' secondary.
Mason announced the hiring Thursday.
Mattioli, who played at Rhodes College in Memphis, spent the past three years at Stanford. That included two years with Mason as a defensive graduate assistant, and Stanford ranked second nationally last year in scoring defense and eighth in passing defense.
Mason says Mattioli will work with safeties, while defensive assistant Brett Maxie coaches cornerbacks.
