William Doty to receive Manning Award at U of I
William Doty, son of Brad and Lisa Doty of Arlington Heights and 2021 graduate of Rolling Meadows High School, will receive the first Thomas A Manning Memorial Scholarship from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign at the 2024 annual History Awards Ceremony in Urbana on April 20.
A James Scholar honors student, Doty has been on the dean’s list all of his five semesters at the university. He was inducted into the national history honor society, Phi Alpha Theta, in the spring of 2022.
He is currently the publication director of the Undergraduate History Journal and is a member of the History Department’s Undergraduate Studies Committee.
Doty has a focus on Russian language and culture, earning the Foreign Language and Areas Study Fellowship in Russian from the University.
About Thomas A. Manning:
Thomas A. Manning earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois and a master’s degree and ABD from Miami University of Ohio. Fluent in Russian, he was a historian with the U.S. Air Force for 42 years, publishing a number of books. He was awarded the Outstanding Civilian Career Service Award for his significant accomplishments for the Air Force.
