Indiana University Northwest to end classes at Portage site

PORTAGE, Ind. (AP) - Indiana University Northwest has decided to stop offering classes at its Portage University Center due to declining enrollment.

School officials announced Wednesday that most of the classes at the center will end after the spring semester, but some classes will be offered during the summer.

The (Muncie) Times reports the classes previously held at Portage University Center will then be transferred to the school's main campus in Gary.

Indiana University Northwest Chancellor William Lowe says the school decided to make a change in light of diminished student traffic at the center. He says the school will continue to focus on responding to students' needs and interests, including an expansion of online course offerings.

The school had offered classes at the Portage University Center since 2012.
