Man charged in attempted sexual assault in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (AP) - A 32-year-old man has been charged after police say he tried to sexually assault a woman last month on the north side of Milwaukee.

Derrick Brown was arrested last week and charged with attempted first-degree sexual assault and kidnapping in connection with a Dec. 12 attack in the city's Riverwest neighborhood. He's accused of threatening to shoot the 25-year-old victim if she didn't comply, and then hitting her several times in the back of the head and face with a replica gun.

Police say the victim was able to escape when a witness intervened. Her injuries required more than 30 stitches and staples.

Police say they found a piece of the replica gun containing both Brown and the victim's DNA at the scene.

Online court records don't list an attorney for Brown.
