Fifth DUI gets Des Plaines man 4 years in prison

A Des Plaines man pleaded guilty to his fifth DUI and was sentenced to four years in prison.

Dennis Barry, 58, also was ordered to pay $929 in fines after he pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI and driving on a revoked license.

He received credit for about 5½ months already spent in custody.

During Barry's bail hearing in February, prosecutors said Palatine police stopped Barry after he ran a red light about 2 a.m. Feb. 8 in the 1500 block of North Randall Road.

Prosecutors said Barry had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Barry, who refused to take a Breathalyzer test and did not have a valid driver's license.

Barry has DUI convictions from 1982, 1986, 1987 and 1990, along with multiple citations for driving on a suspended or revoked license.

He must complete at least 50 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
