Buffalo Grove panel for residents with disabilities adds 2 members
Buffalo Grove's Commission for Residents with Disabilities welcomed two new members this week, Kevin Sullivan and FayeAnn Hirsh.
Hirsh is a 20-year village resident who has worked as a teacher. She's been involved in the Parent-Teacher Organization at Prairie School and the Thespian Parent Organization at Stevenson High School. She also is a founding member of the Buffalo Grove Performing Arts Council.
Sullivan, a lifelong resident who said his congenital diagnosis of arthrogryposis has allowed him to see changes that need to be made in the village, is a former student of Village President Beverly Sussman.
"At the end of sixth grade, Kevin in his motorized chair and me in my electric cart had a race down the hallway," Sussman reminisced at a recent village board meeting.
She couldn't remember, however, who won.
The commission works assess the needs and concerns of citizens with disabilities and to cooperate with the village and other local governments to address quality-of-life issues for persons with disabilities. The panel meets on the fourth Wednesday of every month at village hall.
