Law student to serve 95th District as state representative
LITCHFIELD, Ill. (AP) - A law student is replacing Wayne Rosenthal as state representative in the 95th District.
Avery Bourne of Pawnee was selected for the job Saturday at a meeting of Republican leaders from Macoupin, Montgomery, Christian and Madison counties. According to a press release, she was chosen among 10 applicants because of her compassion and understanding of agriculture, education and fiscal responsibility.
Rosenthal recently was appointed by Gov. Bruce Rauner to head the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, creating the state representative vacancy.
The State Journal-Register (http://bit.ly/1Jn8Elc ) reports Bourne has volunteered on several campaigns, including those of U.S Rep. Rodney Davis, Rauner and Rosenthal.
The 22-year-old lives in Montgomery County and studies at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Bourne is expected to be sworn in this week.
