Broken rail equals commuter delays on BNSF line to Aurora

A broken rail means headaches for commuters heading home this afternoon on the BNSF Line from Chicago Union Station to Aurora.

The broken rail occurred at the south end of Union Station and will cause delays of about 15 minutes, officials said.

"Needed track repairs will result in some track assignment changes this afternoon, but there are no cancellations," Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said. "Repairs will take place in time for planned normal operations by tomorrow morning."

Metra advised riders that Platforms 2, 4 and 6 at Union Station won't be in use tonight and to check information boards as they enter the boarding area.

"Metra will make every attempt to minimize these delays and any inconvenience to its passengers," a spokeswoman said.

The track issue also affects the SouthWest Service and the Heritage Corridor.
